RealGearTest is an independent review site covering tech, appliances, home and auto gear. We started it because most "best of" lists are either thinly rewritten spec sheets or paid placements dressed up as recommendations. We wanted the version we would send to a friend: a short ranked list, a clear reason each product made it, and the trade-offs stated plainly.

How we shortlist

Every guide starts with data rather than opinion. We pull the current best sellers in a category, filter out products with thin or suspicious review volume, and keep the ones holding a strong rating over a meaningful number of reviews. Then we cross-check the shortlist against independent lab testing, professional reviews and long-term owner threads to catch reliability problems that early ratings miss.

How we rank

Products are scored on the things that actually change day-to-day use: real-world performance, build quality, software or app experience, warranty and support, and value for what you pay. We also call out who each pick is for — best overall, best budget, best for a specific use case — because the right answer depends on your situation.

What we do not do

We do not accept payment for placement or for a positive review. Brands cannot pay to be added to a list, moved up a list, or have criticism removed. If a product we recommended develops a known fault, we update or remove the recommendation.
